
New Teacher Orientation Workshop Series
First day jitters? No problem. The New Teacher Orientation Workshops provide an introduction to independent schools for teachers new to the profession in our member schools and/or new experienced teachers to CIS Ontario schools. It's also an opportunity for teachers to make connections with educators within the member community and get a crash course on the culture of independent school life in Ontario. You'll also get pro tips on supporting learning.

Session #1 Teaching and Learning in CIS Ontario Schools
Wednesday, October 29, 2025, 4:00–5:30 p.m. via Zoom
Cohort 21 co-facilitator, Garth Nichols, Head of School, Kingsway College School, and Tina Jagdeo, Director of Wellbeing and Pluralism, Upper Canada College, lead participants in an interactive session focused on teaching and learning in CIS Ontario schools.
Session #2 Independent School Changing Expectations & Supporting Success For All Learners
Wednesday, November 12, 2025, 4:00–5:30 p.m. via Zoom
Dr. Leanne Foster, Principal at UTS - University of Toronto Schools, will lead an interactive workshop through the lens of a school head about the changing expectations in independent schools and how to support the success of all learners.
Session #3 Leveraging AI Prompt Engineering to Revolutionize Your Work with LLMs
Wednesday, November 26, 2025, 4:00–5:30 p.m. via Zoom
Future Design School (FDS) will facilitate an engaging and hands-on session where you will explore how Large Language Models (LLMs) are helping transform teaching and learning by reimagining what’s possible. You will learn how leveraging prompt engineering principles allows you to use AI as a thought partner to boost productivity and unlock new possibilities.
Attending this session will earn you the Level 1 - AI Microcredential I. If you want to earn the entire suite of microcredentials, you will need to take Microcredentails II-IV in January and February 2026, however you will receive credit for completing AI Microcredential I. CIS Ontario recently added Level 2 – AI Microcredential V and VI to the program so there are now six discrete AI microcredentials available for teachers that support your work in the classroom and the school at large.
- The registration fee is $110.00 per person and will be billed to your school. A discount is available to schools registering more than three staff members, at $100.00 per participant.
