CITE

CITE, the Conference of Independent Teachers of English, supports the teaching and learning of English, Media Studies and drama at its member schools. We do so through two complementary projects: an annual professional conference for teachers of English, and the publication of INCITE , an anthology of student writing and visual art. CITE also facilitates English curriculum leaders meetings, and provides a social and professional network for literacy teachers.

Claire Cameron, author of The Bear and The Last Neanderthal, will read selections from two of her novels and offer attendees creative writing tips and strategies. A Different Drummer Books will be on hand to sell signed copies of her books.

The New York Times called Cameron’s novel The Last Neanderthal “one of the most realistic novels about the twilight of the Neanderthals thus far written,” and it was a finalist for the 2017 Rogers Writers’ Trust Fiction Prize. Claire Cameron’s second novel, The Bear, published in nine territories, was long listed for the Baileys Women’s Prize for Fiction (formerly the Orange Prize) and is a number one bestseller in Canada. It won the Northern Lit Award from the Ontario Library Service, which her first novel, The Line Painter, also won. Her writing has appeared in The New York Times, The Globe and Mail, Lenny Letter, and Salon. She lives in Toronto.
