CITE, the Conference of Independent Teachers of English, supports the teaching and learning of English, Media Studies and Drama at its member schools. We do so through two complementary projects: an annual professional conference for teachers of English, and the publication of INCITE , an anthology of student writing and visual art. CITE also facilitates English curriculum leaders meetings, and provides a social and professional network for literacy teachers.

CITE Conference 20/20 Vision

The annual CITE conference was to be hosted by The Bishop Strachan School this year. Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, we postponed the conference until a later date. Stay tuned for more details. The BSS team worked tirelessly to put together exciting speakers and workshops, and we are so grateful to Annette Chiu and her team.

In the meantime, please see the list of INCITE student writing competition winners and encourage your students to enter our Spring Poetry Contest, details below.

Student Spring Poetry Contest

To help keep those creative juices flowing, CITE is hosting a spring poetry competition.  Encourage your students to participate by having them write a poem on the theme of “spring.”

  • Entries should include the student’s name, grade, and school, and be submitted by the supervising teacher to Adrian Hoad-Reddick (
  • A maximum of three poems per teacher may be submitted, and poems should not exceed 24 lines each.
  • Students in grades 4 to 12 are eligible.

Winners will be chosen from the top entries in each grade band (4-6; 7-8; 9-10; 11-12), and these students will be invited to participate in a writing workshop at the next CITE conference.

The deadline for submitting entries to the competition is Thursday, May 21, 2020.
