CAMP PROGRAM LEAD

Branksome Hall, a leading independent International Baccalaureate (IB) World School, offers remarkable Day Camps during the summer, on a picturesque urban campus in the heart of Toronto.  We offer a wide selection of camp options, for children aged 4 to 10, streamlined into three main categories: Arts, Sports, and STEM. Campers and staff will enjoy utilizing our beautiful 13-acre campus and our state-of-the-art facilities. The Opportunity:

Branksome Hall Day Camps (BHDC) is proud to deliver high quality programs that provide an opportunity for fun, friendships and learning to over 2,000 campers each year.   

We are seeking creative and dynamic Camp Program Leads who will be responsible for the overall leadership of the specific camp program area to which they are assigned, along with safety and supervision of their camp group.  Successful Program Lead candidates will use their specialized skills and experience to assist the Camp Director in the development and implementation of their camp program.  Program Leads assume active leadership, providing guidance to Camp Counsellors with whom they will work cooperatively and collaboratively, and use their strong interpersonal skills to maintain open lines of communication with colleagues and families.  Dedication, creativity, organization and enthusiasm are hallmarks of excellent Program Leads who will be positive role models to ensure a a safe and fun camp experience for both campers and staff. 

Branksome Hall Day Camps (BHDC) will run for 8 weeks, June 26 to August 18, 2023, on weekdays from 8:15 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Counsellors may be required to be available beyond their standard hours to participate in After Care when requested or in the event of an emergency or other unexpected and time sensitive situation arises. Camps will not operate on July 3 or August 7 due to holidays.

There will be 3 mandatory Camp Staff Training days in June 2023, exact dates TBC. 

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

• Assume active leadership of camp program and all activities connected to that program
• Develop and implement the specialized program, with detailed lesson plans, for each session throughout the summer, keeping in mind youth development principles and progression
• Adjust program plans to cater to returning campers, weather and different camp groups as needed
• Coordinate with Camp Director and Assistant Camp Director to ensure specific supplies required for camp are ordered in a timely manner
• Actively engage in risk management to ensure standards of safety are upheld in all areas of program execution, equipment and facility use
• Assume responsibility for safety of campers and staff and report any concerns or incidents as they arise as per camp protocols (completion of incident reports may be required)
• Oversee, support and provide mentorship to camp counsellors
• Work to ensure all campers and staff feel comfortable, safe and included
• Be a positive, respectful and effective role model for campers, cousnellors and peers, and same as a representative of BHDC
• Maintain accurate program records, including daily attendance and incident reports
• Be creative and adaptable in problem solving through situations, utilizing and role modeling good communication, positive relationship development, respect for diversity and fair play, and seek assistance from Senior Camp Staff when necessary
• Exemplify excellent customer service in delivering and dealing with feedback to and from parents/guardians
• Understand, enforce, and follow all camp objectives, policies, safety guidelines and emergency procedures
• Be highly aware and attentive of all campers during drop off and pick up procedures, and carry this throughout the camp day with special attention to personal health and wellness needs
• Use appropriate communications for duration of time on site (i.e. before, during and after camp), as well as maintain open lines of productive communication with families and colleagues
• Maintain a clean and safe camp environment, as well as maintenance of any program equipment
• Attend and assist with leading where assigned all scheduled meetings and training sessions
• Be punctual, enthusiastic and organized
• Be flexible, as responsibilities and duties may change week to week due to staffing requirements, weekly enrollment and other contributing factors
• Perform other duties as assigned 

Qualifications and Experience:

• Must have completed specific training/education, and/or have sufficient experience in the area of specialization
• Experience leading programs for children/youth in the area of specialization is an asset    
• Current Standard First Aid/CPR certification required before start of camp
• High Five Principles of Healthy Child Development certification is an asset
• Strong leadership skills developed through progressively responsible experience in a supervisory role
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Police Record Check (CRC) required
• Ability to take charge, problem solve and motivate others
• Ability to work with and lead a wide variety of ages and demographic groups

Working Conditions

• Working in an outdoor environment in all weather conditions
• Participation in recreational swim and outdoor water activities
• May require working After Care (4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.) from week to week, as necessary
• May require assisting campers who identify as same gender with changing clothes

Physical Requirements

• Physical ability to lead, and participate with, children of varying ages in a wide variety of challenging activities in any environment
• Lifting and moving camp equipment and supplies from one location to another
• Walking and/or standing for long periods of time (3+ hours at a time, 7+ hours per day)
