Social Worker 

3 days per week (60% FTE) - Monday to Wednesday, 8:00am to 4:00pm

Part-time Temporary Contract: April 2023 to June 15, 2023

Reports to: Dean of Students, Wellbeing & Inclusion

Education: 

  • Bachelor of Social Work 
  • Masters of Social Work (asset)
  • Good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Worker
  • Experience: 5 + years social worker experience
  • Experience working with School aged children (Preschool-Grade 12)
  • Experience in a non-profit setting (asset)
  • Experience in an Independent School (asset)

Role Overview

Reporting to the Dean of Students, Wellbeing & Inclusion, the Social Worker provides support to ensure the social and emotional wellbeing of students. The Social Worker works closely with the divisional School Heads and interdisciplinary teams to counsel students in order to resolve issues and proactively build resilience and coping skills in students.

Key Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Attend and contribute to regular Circle of Care meetings in all three School divisions

  • Provide support to students across the School

  • Meet with parents and participate in family meetings

  • Attend and contribute to Student Success Team (SST) Meetings 

  • Attend IEP meetings when needed

  • Manage referrals for students and parents

  • Conduct classroom presentations/workshops to talk about self-regulation, conflict management, bullying, problem solving

  • Lead student sessions for stress management, conflict resolution, and social media 

  • Facilitate restorative justice circles (when conflict arises)

  • Attend meetings with teachers and students to resolve in-class conflict

  • Support emergency student visits to hospital for mental health

  • Support student-led Jack.org initiatives

  • Attend student “return to school” meetings at the hospital and provide report to school

  • Design and conduct parent talks (anxiety, self regulation, relationships, etc.)

  • Attend meetings with Global Citizenship staff for students travelling abroad (red flags)

  • Participate in the School’s Wellbeing Strategy Committee

  • Liaise with CAS on family and student issues as they pertain to SMLS

  • Support SMLS employees with all Duty To Report CAS calls
