Position Overview:

The UCC Teaching Intern position will provide differentiated classroom support, co-teaching, individual & small group instruction in SK to Year 7 classrooms. You may also provide supply coverage to Prep teachers. A demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with teachers and students is essential, as is a willingness to participate in the full co-curricular program of the school, including athletic coaching and/or co-curriculars.

Responsibilities:         

  • Support student learning through individual, small group & whole class instruction as needed;
  • Support classroom management and student social emotional needs;
  • Collaboratively plan with teachers;
  • Support student learning through operational tasks such as: marking, preparing materials, displays, organizing materials;
  • Participate in faculty and collaborative team meetings, assemblies and various professional development opportunities;
  • Perform supervisory duties;
  • Coverage for classroom teachers, as needed;
  • Assist with field trips; 
  • Coach athletics and/or lead involved in co-curricular arts, activities or clubs; 
  • Assist with parent-teacher & student-led conferences, parent information evenings, special events, etc;
  • Fully participate in the Norval program, including overnight excursions.

Experience, Knowledge and Competencies:

  • Bachelor of Education required; member of OCT preferred;
  • Experience in the teaching of science, and special education, would be an asset;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to develop strong professional relationships with students, colleagues, administration and parents; 
  • Collaborative team member; 
  • Exemplary communication, organizational and problem solving skills; 
  • Ability to recognize individual learning styles and the characteristics of learners; 
  • Invests in personal development and strives to grow professionally; 
  • Experience utilizing a variety of technology tools & processes; 
  • Highly accountable with strong follow through on commitments; 
  • Exhibits a high level of perseverance, initiative and adaptability; 
  • Displays creativity and innovation both in and out of the classroom; 
  • Understanding of and commitment to, boys’ education; 
  • Commitment to the school’s values of Learning, Wellbeing, Community, Service, Pluralism;
  • Knowledge of the International Baccalaureate - Primary Years Program would be an asset; 
  • Knowledge of teaching literacy, and special education, would be an asset;
  • Exemplary communication, organizational and problem solving skills;
