Crestwood Preparatory College ( is a co-educational, non-denominational, private, day school providing an exceptional education to students from Grade 7 through Grade 12.

Crestwood Preparatory College seeks a knowledgeable, empathetic and dedicated full-time School Nurse (Registered Nurse qualifications required) starting August 29, 2022. 

The continued health and safety of our community are of the utmost importance. The School Nurse will be a sole practitioner, responsible for providing health care and first aid to students and employees, be instrumental in supporting any remaining COVID-19 infection prevention and control protocols and guidelines, and serve as a resource for employees, and parents.

The School Nurse will be technically adept, able to document medical interactions, audit school protocols, coordinate educational in-services and liaise with Public Health and other related agencies.  The ideal candidate will have experience working in an educational environment as well as experience and education in areas that include infectious disease, data collection and trend analysis. Overall the candidate has a genuine passion for nursing while demonstrating care, concern and empathy to students, parents and employees.

Key Responsibilities will include:

  • Support the delivery of programs to promote student health and well-being

  •  Support implementation and review of any remaining COVID-19 infection prevention and control protocols

  • As needed, provide health care and first aid to students and employees, and oversee medication administration.

  • Conduct annual employee training on anaphylaxis, asthma, and medical emergency procedures and coordinate first aid training requirements

  • Responsible for the preparation and maintenance of the health room by ensuring supplies are well stocked and also maintaining first aid supplies/defibrillators

  • Communicate regularly with parents, students, employees, and outside agencies (e.g., Public Health) regarding health and safety issues

  • Assist with and follow up on student and employee accidents, injuries, and emergencies, including concussion protocols

  • Responsible for the prevalent medical condition individual plans of care and medications for students (e.g., anaphylaxis, asthma, diabetes, epilepsy)

  • Assist with the development of Individualized Plans of Care Response for students  or employees who have been injured or have medical needs that will affect their day-to-day routines at school

  • Ensure that all medical information for students and employees is updated regularly and shared with appropriate individuals when needed

  • Report infectious diseases to Toronto Public Health, manage communicable diseases and oversee some aspects of infection control measures

  • Work closely with Toronto Public Health to ensure students remain up to date on their required school immunizations

  • Coordinate immunization clinics in conjunction with Toronto Public Health
  • Support some school-wide events, where applicable, and serve as a consultant for other school professionals to help optimize health and safety

  • Ability to work in a manner that ensures best practices in confidentiality standards

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Registered Nurse (RN)

  • Good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) and Registered Nurses Association of Ontario (RNAO)

  • Minimum 2 years experience in general nursing

  • Strong knowledge of principles of infection prevention and control, and evidence-based practices, cleaning, disinfection, data collection, trend analysis, reporting protocols and outbreak management

  • Experience providing emergency first aid or health care to ill or injured students, and determine if additional care is required (e.g. doctor, admission to Health Centre, hospital care)

  • Strong communication skills (oral and written)

  • Strong technology skills 

  • Must have a valid Standard First Aid with adult/child/CPR

  • Full knowledge of the College of Nurses of Ontario Standards of Nursing Practice, including limitations on practice scope

  • Good knowledge of the Personal Health Information Protection Act and the Occupational Health and Safety Act

  • Mental Health First Aid course

  • Good understanding of mental health concerns, recognizing and supporting students of concern
