Role Overview

St. Mildred’s-Lightbourn School has an opening for a Middle School Teacher - Homeroom, Language Arts, Geography, and History. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with the Head of Middle School and teaching team to create and facilitate student-centered programming that balances direct instruction and innovative practices including Project Based Learning.

The successful candidate is enthusiastic, articulate and a creative teacher who communicates and engages others with ease and confidence. This individual creates a learning community that allows different learners to thrive and prosper and is comfortable engaging in innovative and diverse programming. The successful candidate is a critical thinker who demonstrates initiative, integrity and attention to detail.

  • strong planning skills and proven ability to create engaging, differentiated, and personalized programming to challenge students with a variety of learning styles, interests, and strengths
  • highly professional collaboration and communication skills to be applied with all stakeholders including students, parents, teachers and other staff, and administration
  • leadership skills – desire to seek opportunities that go above and beyond to contribute to a dynamic academic and co-curricular learning environment

The Middle School at SMLS provides a challenging and engaging program that is inspired by the Ontario curriculum. We intentionally seek and explore big ideas and connections between subject areas, within subjects, and to the real world. We provide a nurturing environment, allowing us to support the social, emotional, and academic well-being of our girls. Our inquiry and project-based programming aims to engage the interests and foster the natural curiosity of our students, and develop skills for lifelong learning. We guide our students to ask and explore answers to questions that are relevant to their 21st century world. We encourage our girls to be informed and active citizens of their local and global communities.

Experience, Education, and Qualifications:

  • Post Secondary Education; Bachelor of Education
  • Ontario Teacher Certification
  • 3+ years of classroom experience teaching in the Junior/Intermediate division (Grades 6-8) with a focus on homeroom, language arts, history, and geography
  • Advanced Qualifications preferred
  • Work experience in the Independent School environment (an asset)
  • A comfort with Mac Applications and SMART board Technology
