Manager, College Communications

Royal St. George’s College (RSGC) is seeking a Manager, College Communications – someone eager to join us on our mission to challenge and inspire each student to become the very best version of himself, so they are ready to make a meaningful difference in their communities.

The Manager, College Communications will play an instrumental role in the development and execution of communications plans and programs for RSGC as it engages with its audiences.

We need someone who is joyful, smart, curious; a relationship builder; a superb writer and engaging storyteller; someone who is highly organized, and a big fan of planning. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • In collaboration with the Director, Communications and Marketing, the incumbent will assist with the development and execution of a Communications Strategy aimed at building a robust and aligned ‘internal communications’ function (and the resulting plans and programs) that will achieve both the desired, measurable outcomes, as well as operational excellence in all RSGC communications activities.

  • Develop and execute operational communications strategies, plans and programs that are ‘content’ rich, audience-centric and objectives-focused in order to support RSGC achieving its goals.

  • Supervise, where applicable, external vendors (e.g. graphic designers, photographers, agencies, etc.) as they complete work for RSGC.

  • Provide strategic guidance and tactical assistance to RSGC staff and internal departments with the planning and execution of various communications activities (e.g. events) as the need arises and that fall outside the direct responsibility of the Communications group; actively collaborate on team projects and school-wide initiatives and events.

  • Assist the Director in the planning and execution of marketing activities undertaken by RSGC.

  • Champion quality assurance standards and process in RSGC communications.

  • Responsible for drafting, editing and proofing RSGC’s various written communications materials (e.g. communications to staff or parents, social media posts, newsletters, etc.); supervise production of collateral materials.

  • Responsible for posting materials to the School’s website 

  • Responsible for creating and posting digital media content 

  • Maintain the accuracy and completeness of the School’s Calendar

  • Responsible for creating and maintaining the School’s Parent Portal 

  • Liaise with the parent’s group re their communications needs

  • Collaboratively share  responsibility for creating, maintaining and updating communications mailing lists.

  • Monitor communication-related best practices and maintain key documentation (Handbooks, policy documents)

  • Responsible for the creation and delivery of on-site materials (eg. Programs, Posters, Signage, Slide Presentations, etc.)

  • Responsible for creation and collection of administrative forms, sign-ups and other data

  • Perform other duties as required

Experience and Qualifications

  • Minimum seven years of relevant and demonstrated communications experience

  • A University degree or College diploma in a related field

  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills

  • Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills

  • Ability to manage and update websites

  • Capture and archive photographs and other digital content

  • Demonstrated project management skills; change management experience an asset

  • Experience working with diverse constituent groups

  • Exceptional customer service skills

  • Experience with and working knowledge of social media platforms, Google Analytics, etc.

  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with all levels of faculty, staff, parents, students and volunteers

  • Experience working within an educational environment, preferably independent school focused (Primary and Secondary school years)

  • Ability to take initiative and proactively reach out to individuals within constituent groups

  • High regard for confidentiality; good judgment and sound decision making 

  • Ability to work under tight deadlines with minimal oversight/supervision

  • Basic content production (e.g. graphic design or video editing) skills are an asset.

  • Ability to work outside of normal working hours as necessary
