Education: Bachelor of Education, Ontario Teacher Certification
Experience:
- 3-5+ years’ experience supporting students with learning plans
- Special Education Additional Qualifications and experience
- Classroom Teaching Experience (a definite asset)
- ESL - Additional Qualification (asset)
- Experience in a non-profit setting (asset)
- Experience in an Independent School (asset)

Role Overview
SMLS has reshaped the opening for a Learning Strategies Teacher to help support our Junior School students and work collaboratively with the Director, Learning Strategies in the Student Success Centre.
This individual will be responsible for supporting both the academic and social/emotional needs of students and encouraging students to become self-advocates for their learning. The Learning Strategies Teacher will also work with classroom teachers with specific strategies to support equitable access to curriculum and to support skill building, with particular focus on literacy and numeracy.
The successful candidate is enthusiastic, articulate and a creative teacher who communicates with ease and confidence with all stakeholders (i.e. other teachers, students, parents, etc). The candidate will be a part of an inclusive learning community that allows learners to thrive. The candidate will be comfortable engaging in innovative programming. The candidate will be a critical thinker who demonstrates initiative, integrity and attention to detail.
The candidate brings a confident and assertive leadership style. They are an educator who never stops learning and continually seeks best practices in girls’ education and in working with neurodiverse learners to enrich their teaching.
Key Knowledge, Skills & Experience
We are seeking a dynamic, exemplary educator with the following key qualities and a willingness to continue to develop and grow as a professional:

Knowledge of methods for evaluating and selecting instructional materials that accommodate the neurodiversity of learners in the Junior School

Knowledge of innovative academic support with a specific focus on literacy and numeracy skill development for JK to Grade 5

Participate in integrated team meetings (e.g. Student Success, Wellbeing, Circle of Care) to ensure students are fully supported

Desire to seek opportunities that go above and beyond to contribute to a dynamic academic and co-curricular learning environment

Provide administrative support and assist with other duties as required
