Pickering College is an independent day and boarding school for students in Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12. Pickering College is seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Communications Associate to join our team on a part-time basis (0.6 FTE). Reporting to the Communications Manager, the Communications Associate will be pivotal in enhancing the school's communication strategies, specifically focusing on parent and operational communications. The ideal candidate will be an excellent communicator with a knack for creating engaging content and ensuring the smooth dissemination of information.
This is a part-time in-person position 3 days per week in a shared office environment. Flexibility to attend occasional evening or weekend events may be required.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop, manage, edit, and distribute regular communications to parents and internal operations including email updates and announcements.
- Collaborate with the administration and other departments to ensure clear and consistent messaging.
- Proofread school communications for errors of fact, style, and grammar, including biweekly academic news files.
- Coordinate with various school departments to ensure timely and accurate information is communicated to parents.
- Support the development and implementation of communication strategies related to school operations.
- Update and maintain the parent information on the website.
- Writes, edits, and produces print and online publications, as required.
- Contribute to the content of the school’s website and social media platforms.
- Contribute to The Pillars magazine (biannually), the PC Report Card, and other school publications, as required.
- Assist in the preparation of promotional materials and publications.
- Photography and videography support, as required.
- Support the Communications Manager in various projects and initiatives, as needed.
- The incumbent may be asked to perform other duties as required to meet the ongoing needs of Pickering College.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a communications role, preferably in an educational setting.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in digital communication tools and platforms (e.g., email, social media, website content management systems).
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- A keen eye for detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Experience with graphic design and video editing software is an asset.
