Social Worker, Junior School 

Employment Terms: Part-Time (80%), 16-Month Contract

This is an exciting time for a dynamic Social Worker to join a leading educational community that prioritizes social emotional learning (SEL), diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) and well-being. The Junior School Social Worker works closely with the other Social Workers and the broader School Counselling Team in support of school-wide community mental health and well-being initiatives. A member of the Junior School Student Support Team, and the school-wide Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Team, the Social Worker will support students (JK-6) and their families in making the best use of available opportunities and resources and to fully develop each student's individual potential.

With a solid understanding of the psychosocial development of school-aged children and an interest in positive mental health promotion, the Social Worker’s counselling expertise and knowledge will enable them to collaborate effectively with students, families and faculty to address factors which can impact student school performance, peer relationships and overall well-being. Using an equity lens, you take a  collaborative approach where teachers and parents are each essential members of a team that supports students. The incumbent will have a strong understanding and practice background in anti-oppression, and comprehension of how systems interact to impact student well-being. 

The position follows the academic calendar and is part-time, where the Social Worker will work 4 days per week in person on campus.

Candidate Profile:

The successful candidate holds a Master’s Degree in Social Work, and has 3 – 5 years of clinical social work experience working with diverse youth and families, ideally in an educational setting or social service agency. Experience having worked with young females within the junior school years (Junior Kindergarten to Grade 6) would be considered an asset. Membership in O.C.C.W.S.S.W. is required.

Your social work knowledge and expertise include foundations and experience working with children who experience a variety of learning, social-emotional, and mental health challenges, including but not limited to, diagnosed learning disabilities, ADHD, and anxiety. You are skilled in  facilitating  conversations between peers when social conflict has occurred, and understand these social situations in the gendered context of an all-girls environment. You are also skilled and comfortable involving parents in these conversations as partners in the work with their child. Practices within a strengths based, anti-oppressive framework and experience in cognitive behavioural theories are considered assets. You are passionate about girls' education and how to accelerate and promote their well-being.

Salary Range: $78,800 - $98,500
