Mental Health Counsellor – Student Services

Location: Oakville, Ontario (on-site)
Type: Full-time
Salary Range: 85,000 – 100,000

We are seeking a Mental Health Counsellor to join our team, utilizing a positive psychology approach in both teaching and counselling to foster resilience and support personal growth in students. In this fundamental role, you will provide essential support that helps students overcome challenges and achieve their full potential. Using an anti-oppressive, culturally informed, and strength-based framework, you will address the social, emotional, and academic needs of a diverse student population. Together, we can foster a culture of wellbeing, ensuring every student can succeed and grow!


HOW YOU WILL SUCCEED:

  • Be a Trusted Ally: Form meaningful, supportive relationships with students, offering personalized guidance on challenges like anxiety, depression, trauma, and more
  • Empower Through Leadership: Facilitate small group sessions, fostering a supportive space for diverse students, including those from LGBTQ2S+ and BIPOC communities
  • Support Transitions: Help students seamlessly return to school following mental health leaves, ensuring a smooth and supportive reintegration
  • Collaborate for Success: Work hand-in-hand with the Appleby Care Team and external partners to create comprehensive care plans tailored to each student’s needs
  • Stay Ahead: Leverage the latest mental health insights and best practices to enrich student support and foster growth
  • Uphold Confidentiality: Maintain accurate, confidential records, using data to track and enhance support programs
  • Engage & Unite: Partner with families to ensure a collaborative approach to each student’s wellbeing and success
  • Foster Community: Build strong connections within the Appleby community and with external resources to widen our support network

 

WHAT YOU BRING:

  • Experience in mental health counseling with a focus on adolescent care
  • Advanced education in counseling, such as a master’s degree in counseling psychology or school counseling is preferred
  • Specialized training or coursework in intercultural counseling competencies
  • Proven experience working with BIPOC and LGBTQ2+ adolescent populations
  • Background in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) or substantial experience fostering inclusive environments
  • Familiarity with specialized learning needs and exceptionalities
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Proficiency in using technology for counseling functions, including record keeping, data management, and digital communication
