Trinity College School (TCS) is a leading co-educational boarding and day school for approximately 580 young people from Grades 5-12. FRENCH TEACHER – Junior School Grades 7-8
(18-month parental leave coverage)
The preferred candidate will hold a degree in French and is skilled, qualified and passionate about teaching middle school (Grades 7-8) French. The candidate will possess excellent skills in grammar and writing, as well as a strong grounding in French literature. The position requires energy, creativity, organizational skills, collegiality and a strong commitment to a lively community of students and educators. The candidate will be familiar with current curricular trends and integrated technology.
A member of the Ontario College of Teachers, the ideal candidate will have French teaching experience and will also be teaching Grade 7 Science and Technology, as well as taking on the responsibilities of a Grade 7 homeform teacher. In addition, the successful candidate will be engaged in the co-curricular life of the School, including service learning, technology, coaching recreational or competitive athletics and/or working with the arts. This is an 18-month parental leave coverage contract, reporting to the Head of Junior School, commencing in January 2020.
•Organize the classroom and learning resources to create a dynamic learning environment
•Maintain the French room and collaborate and plan with the Grade 5-6 French teacher
•Plan, prepare and facilitate engaging lessons that motivate students and that account for a range of needs, abilities and interests
•Follow ministry curriculum guidelines
•Assess and evaluate student development based on Growing Success
•Maintain positive discipline in the classroom
•Provide timely and ongoing feedback to parents
•Use technology in the classroom to enhance learning
•Keep up to date with developments in teaching resources and strategies and make relevant changes to instructional plans and activities
•Liaise with colleagues and work flexibly in a tight knit community
•Work with the Director of Curriculum to implement project-based learning, deeper learning strategies, digital citizenship curricula and growth-mindset in students
•Experience in independent schools and a thorough understanding of independent school ethos
•Training in Touchstones and Edsby, beneficial
•Familiarity with Atlas Rubicon mapping tools
•Familiarity with Chromebooks and Google Classrooms
•Familiarity with Teaching Proficiency Through Reading and Story-telling (TPRS)
•Enthusiastic, energetic and able to foster unique learning experiences for students
•Full engagement in the co-curricular life of the School, including coaching athletics and/or working with the performing arts
•Bachelor of Education degree (Ontario or equivalent)
•Member in good standing of the Ontario College of Teachers
•Undergraduate degree (or the equivalent) in French
