The Greenwood Centre for Teaching and Learning: Teacher Induction Program - Math Apprentice Teacher

Greenwood College School was founded to inspire young men and women to venture further in order to prepare them for the challenges and experiences of life.

The willingness to participate fully in the life of the school, including our two-week, off-site Outdoor Education program, is essential.

Greenwood is seeking an Apprentice Teacher for Math to begin in September 2019 within the Teacher Induction Program. 

Teacher Induction Fellowship

The year-long fellowship is designed to support recent graduates of a teacher education program. By providing classroom experience alongside an experienced teacher, fellowship candidates will further develop classroom management skills, strategies that support personalized learning, technology integration, and assessment strategies.

Teachers in this program will gain confidence in their ability to facilitate learning experiences and create positive and productive learning environments as substitutes for teachers who are absent from class.

Outside of the classroom, these teachers will enrich the student life experience through their participation in Greenwood’ s Outdoor Education program, and active planning and delivery of our Service Learning program and other co-curricular activities.

The fellowship provides:

  • practical classroom experience with one of Canada’s most progressive schools

  • mentorship from highly accomplished educators with deep subject knowledge

  • professional development and participation in an OISE certification course in connecting educational research and lesson design through the Greenwood Centre for Teaching and Learning

  • opportunities to build positive relationships with students and develop their character outside of the classroom through a wide array of co-curricular programs

  • membership in a dynamic professional learning culture

  • assistance with career planning and job search skills

Math Apprentice Teacher General Roles and Responsibilities

  • facilitate student learning in the following area under the guidance of an experienced teacher: mathematics in Grade 7-8 and the possibility of applied mathematics in Grade 9-12

  • support and challenge learners in and out of the classroom

  • collaborate with peers in the delivery of curricular and co-curricular programming

  • provide on-call coverage for teachers absent from class

  • supervise co-curricular programming (athletics, arts, service learning, outdoor education)

  • assist with student supervision duties

Candidate Profile

  • Graduating or recently graduated from a B.Ed. program with two teaching qualifications at the intermediate or senior level

  • A belief that all students can learn and grow

  • A student-centered, technology-enabled approach to learning

  • Personal qualities:

    • enthusiastic and energetic

    • empathetic and caring

    • highly collaborative

    • growth minded and reflective

    • adaptive and resilient

    • progressive thinker

  • Experience in coaching athletics, the arts, and outdoor education are assets

Other Information

This is a one-year fellowship. Successful candidates will receive a salary and membership in the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan. No group benefits are offered.
