The Payroll Specialist is responsible for coordinating all Appleby payrolls while ensuring compliance with governmental laws and internal reporting requirements. The specific accountabilities include:

  • Coordinate and deliver quality payroll, ensuring the processing of monthly and semi-monthly payroll, monthly and year-end reconciliation of T4s, pension adjustments, OTPP and EHT
  • Review and analyze current payroll, benefits and tax procedures to recommend and implement changes committed to best practices
  • Manage and liaise with ADP and HR vendor on issues related to payroll and the HRIS to ensure proper alignment to the school’s requirements
  • Provide administration, reconciliation, reporting and remittance of all payroll and benefits plans such as Great West Life, Sunlife, Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan, Canada Revenue Agency and Ministry of Finance


  • Post-secondary education
  • 5 + years’ experience coordinating payroll process
  • Certificate with the Canadian Payroll Association and asset
  • General accounting knowledge
  • Exceptional skills on MS Office suite (including Outlook) and payroll/HRIS systems, preferably ADP
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Must maintain a high level of integrity and confidentiality
