We are looking for an enthusiastic and collaborative Financial Accountant to join the Finance Department of the College. This permanent full-time position will report to the Finance Manager and will be responsible for accounts payable, student billing, financial accounting for both the College and St. George’s College Foundation , internal controls and general support to the Finance Manager and CFO. This is an integral role in the Finance Department.


Primary responsibilities and desired qualifications of the Financial Accountant include the following:

Accounts Payable

  • Code and match invoices and expense reports to appropriate documentation

  • Process invoices, expense reports and cheques

  • Resolve invoice and expense report discrepancies

  • Ensure compliance with excise taxes (HST/GST)

Student Billing

  • Process all cash receipts

  • Process student account billings

  • Investigate and resolve parent student billing queries (with the Finance Manager)

Foundation and Donations

  • Process donation cash receipts

  • Assist Finance Manager with Foundation accounting including:

    • investment accounting for Foundation investments

    • month-end reconciliations

    • preparation of annual audit working papers for Foundation including detailed analysis of funds

    • preparation of annual financial statements

Financial Accounting and Internal Controls

  • Prepare monthly journal entries

  • Provide monthly account analysis for accounts as required

  • Assist with College working papers for year-end audit

  • Provide back-up support to Finance Manager for student billing and bank reconciliations when requested

  • Prepare input documents/working papers for annual budget

  • Work with Finance Manager and trip organizers to facilitate financial components of trips

  • With the CFO and Finance Manager, continually ensure appropriateness of system of internal controls and make recommendations for improvements


  • Assist Finance Manager and/or CFO with project work as required (e.g. financial systems review)

  • Other Finance duties as assigned



  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to problem solve

  • The ability to work as a team player and autonomously when required

  • Strong accounting skills and knowledge of appropriate internal controls

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in an accounting role

  • Attention to detail and the ability to prioritize a variety of tasks

  • Proficiency in MS Office applications

  • Experience working with Blackbaud software a definite asset
