It is with great excitement that we announce the 2019 edition of the Ontario Secondary Schools Spanish Contest (OSSSC). Since 2008, a dedicated group of teacher volunteers has worked hard to give Ontario high school students the opportunity to show off their Spanish skills.
Registration for 2019 is now open.
The goal of this event remains to promote and expand the study of Spanish across the province. Our 2019 slogan is inspired by the fact that all students can learn additional languages for a wide variety of personal, professional, and humanistic reasons: Con el español, ¡yo puedo!
The contest will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2019 at Upper Canada College in North York. This year's event, a first on a weekend, aims to attract more schools than ever from a diverse cross-section of regions across the province. The day's festivities include a full lunch, lots of snacks, activities, and an award ceremony. As always, cash prizes will be awarded to our top students in each category: Beginner (year one/LWSBD), Intermediate (year two/LWSCU), Senior (year three/LWSDU), Spanish Plus, and Hispanohablante.
A maximum of six (6) students* per school may be entered, in any or all of our contest categories. There will be a cost of $40 per student, payable on the contest day by cash or cheque. There is no cost for one accompanying Spanish-speaking teacher/volunteer per school to attend.
Full details about the contest are available on our website, www.ontariospanishcontest.com.
Online registration is open until April 15, 2019.
