About Lakefield College School
Lakefield, Ontario
Established in northeastern Ontario in 1879, Lakefield College School provides a world-renowned co-educational day and boarding school experience for Grades 9 through 12. LCS is inspired by a belief in the fundamental value of each person—caring teachers, advisors and coaches challenge and enable students to reach their individual potential, preparing them for a life of leadership and making positive contributions to the global community.
At Lakefield College School, the strong sense of community and the warmth and commitment of our students, staff and volunteers lie at the core of our programs and you can feel the “pride of school” that radiates from so many. This pride is enhanced by our beautiful natural campus. Located just under two hours northeast of Toronto, in the heart of cottage-country on the edge of the rugged Canadian Shield, our campus provides a fantastic outdoor classroom—equipped with 315 acres of beautiful grounds, a lake, fields, forests and small village-like residences.
Our mission, to challenge and enable our students to reach their individual potential in mind, body and spirit, comes with a commitment to uphold our values and to ensure that the academic and social needs of our students are paramount. Parents entrust their children to us and we take that trust very seriously. Academic rigour is important, as is learning through experience and relationships—a unique approach that, as a small boarding and day school, we offer like no other. At LCS, students learn through the relationships they build with their peers and community, through international opportunities and expeditions, and from teachers, coaches and staff who know them really well. They enjoy individualized learning support and are immersed in an academic program, knowledge and experiences, that focus on educating the whole student. Our school-wide leadership program (spanning Grades 9 through 12) encourages personal resiliency, builds confidence and a commitment to community service, preparing our graduates to pursue their passions in any field.
While we are very proud of LCS graduates who have gone on to pursue all types of successful careers in our 137-year history, we are equally proud to have been the alma mater for international royalty. The current King of Spain, His Majesty King Felipe VI attended LCS in 1985 and maintains ties with the school and his former classmates to this day.
Our international reputation means that every year approximately 140 students (including expatriate Canadians) from more than 31 countries make the journey to attend LCS along with approximately 225 domestic students attending from various locations across Canada. Coming to LCS from abroad is an enriching and exciting adventure. Supported by a variety of programs and caring people, our international and boarding students quickly adjust to a happy life at LCS, making friends from all over the world.
Throughout their educational career, our students receive individualized support from a caring team of academic advisors and guidance counsellors to help them discover the perfect post-secondary plan for their needs and interests. We are so proud of all of our graduates who have received offers of admission to exceptional post-secondary institutions from around the world where they continue to follow their passion in a variety of fields. Our hope is that all of our students maintain their hunger and curiosity for learning throughout their lifetime.
