The CISAA proudly recognizes Brent MacKay as the 2023-2024 recipient of the prestigious Pete Beach Award. A cornerstone of the athletic community for nearly four decades, Brent’s remarkable career exemplifies the values of integrity, mentorship, and sportsmanship that the award celebrates.
Brent began coaching in the CISAA in 1986, dedicating 38 years to Upper Canada College (UCC) and Bishop Strachan School (BSS). Throughout his tenure, he demonstrated unwavering commitment to student-athletes, coaching hockey, football, baseball, and badminton. Brent’s accomplishments are nothing short of extraordinary. As UCC’s head varsity hockey coach, he led his team to over 500 victories, the most in school history, and secured numerous CISAA, TDCAA, and OFSAA titles. He also guided UCC’s varsity baseball team to a CISAA championship in 2014 and played pivotal roles in football and badminton programs.
Beyond his coaching success, Brent’s impact extended to leadership. Serving as UCC’s Athletic Director for 33 years, he organized countless practices, tournaments, and games, mentored coaches, and fostered a culture of teamwork and respect. Brent also contributed significantly to the broader CISAA community, serving as a convenor for multiple sports and as the OFSAA transfer representative for over a decade.
