CISAA’s Impactful Winter Season of Sport: A 2024–25 Recap
  • CISAA

As the winter season comes to a close, it's the perfect moment to reflect on the scope and significance of athletic programming across the CISAA. The 2024–25 winter season once again showcased the remarkable commitment of our member schools, their student-athletes, and the over 1,000 coaches who make these programs possible. This season not only highlighted the diversity of sports offered but also underscored the immense participation and leadership that define the CISAA experience.

A Season Defined by Participation and Spirit

This winter, CISAA facilitated competition and development in over a dozen sports, with thousands of students representing their schools across a wide range of leagues and disciplines.

  • Boys Basketball: 19 leagues | 2,049 students

  • Girls Volleyball: 16 leagues | 1,946 students

  • Boys Hockey: 8 leagues | 1,018 students

  • Girls Hockey: 3 leagues | 264 students

  • Boys Squash: 3 leagues | 329 students

  • Girls Squash: 1 league | 61 students

  • Girls Badminton: 5 leagues | 354 students

In addition to these gender-specific programs, CISAA also ran several thriving coed sports:

  • Alpine Skiing (HS & U14): 445 participants

  • Snowboarding (HS): 47 participants

  • Curling: 3 leagues | 135 participants

  • Futsal: 1 league | 50 participants

  • Nordic Skiing (HS): 81 participants

  • Swimming: 500 high school and 409 elementary students

These numbers reflect not just participation but the vitality of school sport culture within our association. They speak to the opportunities that students have to grow, compete, and connect through sport during the winter months.

The Driving Force: Our Coaches

Behind every game, match, and meet are the dedicated coaches who give their time, energy, and expertise to support student-athletes. This season, more than 1,000 coaches were active across CISAA’s winter sports. Their impact reaches far beyond wins and losses—they foster teamwork, resilience, and personal growth.

CISAA continues to support coaches through targeted professional development. This winter, our coaches stepped up in a major way through the CISAA Professional Learning Plan:

  • 116 Elementary Track and Field coaches registered for the Athletics Ontario NCCP clinic.

  • 46 High School coaches are preparing to take part in NCCP Sport Coach training this April.

  • Over 45 Football coaches are also scheduled to attend Football Ontario’s Positional Coach training in April.

These efforts reflect our community’s commitment to continual growth and excellence—not only on the field but in coaching practice and leadership.

A Collective Celebration

The 2024–25 winter season was marked by high engagement, competitive spirit, and a shared dedication to sport. It brought together student-athletes from across Ontario in a celebration of effort, collaboration, and school pride.

To every athlete who trained and competed, and to every coach who led and inspired—thank you. Your contributions are the heartbeat of CISAA, and your impact resonates far beyond the scoreboard.

As we look ahead to the spring season, let us carry forward the energy, unity, and passion that defined this winter. We’re excited to see what comes next.
