BSS YouBelong Student Summit 2021

On Friday, February 19th, 2021, the Bishop Strachan School will host its first virtual Student Diversity Leadership summit. The theme will be, You Belong. This will be the first student conference of its kind, specifically designed for students by students and will focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion within independent schools in Canada. It will be a gathering of students from Canadian independent schools from grades 8-12.

We invite your school community to virtually join us this day for a program designed to inspire and foster inclusion, belonging and affirmative action in your own communities. The summit is meant to be a safe space for learning and sharing, in order to move towards a brighter future for our schools.

The summit will include a message from a keynote speaker and the opportunity to participate in collaborative workshops on various topics related to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Workshop proposals are now being accepted.  If you are interested in leading a workshop on a DEI topic of your choice, please access this link for more information and to submit a proposal. Workshop proposals are due January 7th to be considered. Workshop facilitators must also attend a mandatory zoom and facilitator training session.

Registration is now open for the You Belong summit.  We ask schools to bring a minimum of two students (grade 8-12) as well as an adult chaperone who will be available on call during the day. The chaperone does not have to attend the conference but will be required to attend a chaperone orientation session to be aware of how to support their student participants. There is no limit to the number of registrations per school!

We hope your school will be able to join us to embrace diversity, learning and change in your communities. We hope that this day will be a celebration of differences and also a unique learning opportunity to hear various perspectives and experiences from our schools.
