The St. Anne's School Senior Flag Football team had a historic season, culminating in the first CISAA team championship in the school's history. The season began with a challenging loss against Holy Name of Mary, but the team quickly regrouped and demonstrated resilience. They rebounded with a decisive victory against Crestwood, showcasing their ability to adapt and improve. A close overtime defeat against Havergal, the defending champions, tested their resolve, but they continued to build on their strengths and cohesion.
A highlight of the season was winning the inaugural Riverbed Rumble against Branksome Hall, establishing an annual rivalry that promises excitement for years to come. The team maintained momentum with impressive performances, including a dominant win in their final regular-season game, which set them up nicely for the playoffs.
Entering the playoffs with a solid 3-1-1 record, the team advanced through the quarterfinals with a commanding shutout victory. They faced a familiar opponent in the semifinals and turned the tables on their earlier loss, overcoming an early deficit by executing strategic plays that led to a decisive win.
In the finals, facing off against a solid Branksome Hall squad, the Cygnets fell behind early but rallied in the second half. With standout performances and critical plays, they secured their championship title with a thrilling victory, including a 90-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter and a decisive interception return for a touchdown to seal the win.
After starting with a record of 1-2, the team finished strong by winning five consecutive matches and outscoring opponents 110-38 during that stretch. This remarkable season showcased individual talents and highlighted teamwork and determination, marking a significant achievement in the school's athletic history.
