CISAA remains committed to supporting coaches in achieving sport-specific training, particularly in high-risk sports, to enhance athlete safety and coaching effectiveness. For the 2025–2026 school year, the primary focus will be on field hockey, ice hockey, and lacrosse. In addition, support continues for coaches in swimming, track and field, and football as CISAA works toward the goal of ensuring all coaches in high-risk sports achieve “Trained Status” within the NCCP Competition Introduction coaching pathway.
Field Hockey
August 28, 2025
All field hockey coaches are required to attend this one-day, in-person training session to complete the six NCCP modules mandated by Field Hockey Ontario. Host school to be confirmed.
April 10–11, 2026
A two-day, in-person skills training session will be held in collaboration with Field Hockey Ontario. Host school to be confirmed.
Ice Hockey
Training for all CISAA hockey coaches will be coordinated by the Ontario Hockey Federation. The training is expected to occur prior to the start of the 2025–2026 CISAA hockey season, with sessions likely scheduled for October or November 2025. Further details will be shared as they become available.
Lacrosse
CISAA is fortunate to have an Ontario Lacrosse facilitator among its coaching community. Max Perren, Athletic Director at Upper Canada College Prep, will coordinate the required training for CISAA lacrosse coaches in preparation for the Spring 2026 season. The suggested training dates are Friday and Saturday, April 10–11, 2026, with more information to come.
Swimming
The Swimming 101 course will be offered prior to the 2025–2026 winter swimming season. Coaches who were unable to complete this training during 2024–2025 will have the opportunity to do so. Completion of this course is mandatory prior to coaching in the upcoming school year.
Football
Coaches who completed the Positional Coach workshop in April 2025 will be eligible to enroll in the Coordinator course in April 2026. Coaches still requiring the Positional Coach training must complete it before coaching in Fall 2026. CISAA will coordinate a Positional Coach workshop in April 2026.
Track and Field
Coaches are required to complete the following courses based on their coaching level:
- Elementary coaches: Athletics Ontario At-Risk Events course
- High school coaches: Athletics Ontario Fundamentals Course
CISAA will assist in coordinating access to these courses in early 2026, ahead of the spring season.
Yours in sport.
