2024 Fall INCITE Writing Competition for Students – Exploring the Impacts of Taking a Risk
  • Student Programs

Students, get ready for INCITE 2025 by participating in the 2024 Fall INCITE Writing Competition. This year's prompt challenges you, our young writers, to explore what it means to take a significant risk and the impacts of taking risks on your own lives and those around you.

Prompt

Sometimes, a risk can result in the overcoming of significant barriers. Other times, a risk can lead to major setbacks and tremendous loss. A risk might be the result of personal courage; however, a risk might also stem from envy or petty desires. Someone might take a risk that affects only themselves, or they might take a risk that affects others as well. In a poem, short story, essay, dramatic scene or photo essay, explore what it means for someone to take a significant risk and how it affects their lives and the lives of those around them.

  • Poetry: up to 120 lines
  • Short story: up to 1500 words
  • Essay: up to 1500 words
  • Dramatic scene: up to 1200 words
  • Photo essays: up to 10 images, accompanied by a 400-500 word explanatory paragraph
