Racial Trauma + Reclaiming Identity: A Therapeutic Art Workshop presented by the CIS Ontario People of Colour Affinity Network

In May 2021, the CIS Ontario People of Colour (PoC) Affinity Network hosted a workshop addressing Racial Trauma + Reclaiming Identity. Led by Linda Lin, a registered Clinical Counsellor, Canadian Certified Counsellor and Art Therapist, the 1.5 hour workshop provided participants with an overview of racial trauma and created a framework for exploration and conversations, in small breakout groups, of the impact on experiences and narratives. A powerful video by Resmaa Menakem offered context and perspective on racial trauma. The workshop included an experiential therapeutic art component and some of the one-word feedback from the workshop included empowering, restorative, comforting, supportive, and needed.  The PoC Affinity Network is planning additional workshops and PL for the 2021-22 school year.
