On Thursday, April 16, 55 English educators from 26 CIS Ontario schools gathered virtually to explore the theme Beyond Tradition: The Evolving English Classroom. The event brought together a dynamic community of teachers committed to rethinking and reshaping English education in response to a rapidly changing world.

Participants engaged in two breakout sessions. Conversations focused on the growing influence of artificial intelligence on assessment and evaluation, as well as the expanding range of digital tools available to support teaching and learning. Educators also shared innovative strategies for building engaging and effective classrooms, as well as the evolution of the English canon to include more diverse voices.

The gathering also featured the exciting announcement of this year’s INCITE student writing competition winners. INCITE is now accessible through read.cisontario.ca/incite. Congratulations to all the student winners, and thank you to the English teachers who encouraged their students to contribute to the competition.

Looking ahead, Danielle Ganley, Head of English and Gillian Martin, Middle School English Teacher from Holy Trinity School, offered an exciting preview of next year’s in-person CITE Conference 2027. Network members are encouraged to mark their calendars for April 9, 2027.

Thank you to everyone who attended for the rich, engaging discussions and to the workshop hosts who made them possible, reinforcing a shared commitment to innovation and collaboration in English education.
