About CIS Ontario

Welcome to CIS Ontario (the Conference of Independent Schools of Ontario), your one-stop network for supporting leadership and excellence in independent school education.

ARE YOU SET TO RAISE THE BAR?

Professional Learning

If you’re a faculty or staff member at one of our 47 member schools, you’ll find the inspiration and information you need to pursue your next innovative professional-learning opportunity. You are also a member of our networking and collaboration platform, CISO Connect.

Student Experiences

We invite you to explore our extraordinary range of student experiences. More than 28,000 students province-wide have the opportunity to benefit from the music, drama, visual arts and dance festivals we provide annually to our girls’, boys’ and co-ed member schools.

CISAA – our Athletic Association

And on the athletics front, more than 1,500 sports teams operate within the Conference of Independent Schools of Ontario Athletic Association (CISAA), far above the provincial average.

LEGACY OF EXCELLENCE

Our 47 member schools have founding dates ranging from 1829 to 2002.

We advocate for quality independent-school education for 28,000+ students and offer collaboration opportunities for more than 5,000 employees.

CIS Ontario was incorporated in 1983, building on two earlier informal networks of independent schools to form a new association that initially served twenty-three member schools in the province.

We are closely affiliated with the Canadian Accredited Independent Schools, the national association that accredits the majority of our schools. We are also members of the National Association of Independent Schools (U.S.) and the Independent Schools Association Network (U.S.). In addition, we liaise with the Ontario Ministry of Education and The Ontario College of Teachers on behalf of our member schools.
