About the Opportunity

SMLS is currently seeking a creative, part-time Preschool Teacher to join our Junior School team beginning mid November 2017 through June 22, 2017.

In this dynamic role, you will be one of three Preschool Teachers delivering creative and innovative, comprehensive classroom programming for girls ages 2.5 years to 4 years of age. This role will also supervise students in grades JK-6 in our morning Extended Care program that runs from 7:15am-8:15am.


Key duties include:

  1. Develop and implement a developmentally appropriate preschool program for young children

    • Organize the learning environment and establish routines to facilitate an active learning approach

    • Plan and implement activities to meet the physical, emotional, intellectual and social needs of the children in the program

    • Establish a climate for positive social interactions

    • Utilize the Core Knowledge Curriculum as a framework/road map for working with students

  1. Supervise children in the Preschool

    • Establish routines and provide positive guidance

    • Provide a safe and secure environment for children to feel comfortable

  1. Communicate with parents and members of the community

    • Discuss children’s development with parents

    • Discuss identified problems and needs with professionals as appropriate

  1. Maintain program administration

    • Keep parents informed of program expectations, program activities and their child’s progress

    • Develop and maintain current, accurate and confidential files

    • Develop daily activity plans

    • Ensure compliance with all Ministry required expectations for Preschool classroom.

  2. Perform other related duties as required



Reporting to the Head of the Junior School, you will have experience implementing curriculum for young learners.  You have your ECE qualifications (Early Childhood Education Diploma) and registered with the College of Early Childhood Educators.  You will have experience working with diverse groups of learners.

Experience, Education, and Qualifications:

  • ECE qualifications (Early Childhood Education Diploma)

  • 2+ years of teaching experience students ages 2.5 to 4 years in a Preschool setting

  • Member in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators (RECE)

  • Work experience in the Independent School environment is an asset
